Teardrop Camper Build • "Flo"

And matching decorative pillows?

Gathering cool, vintage stuff for inspiration

While hubby is recovering from heart surgery his super nice friends helped me with removing the steel sides from the trailer

Making pretty sparks!

Now it's time to frame up the floor

Insulation for toasty toes and butt

The finished plywood base

This is me using the big stapler thingy to secure the waterproof tar paper layer

This is the dogs helping me roll it out

Time for the galley cabinet build, this is the left one

And here's the right

Ok, so I don't want to brag but can you see the perfectly matching color of the paint to the vintage cooler? Yep I did that and didn't even have a sample of the color with me when picking out the paint, It's a gift! Haha

Painting the cabinets and adding detail

More cool vintage furniture for the galley

An old enamel top small cabinet to mount the sink on

Yay, they fit perfectly!

An awesome find, I forget what it used to be but some touch up painting and a shelf inside make my center cabinet for dishes

Adding the first wall behind the galley to separate it from the bedroom

The enclosure for the galley is complete

Here's the finished kitchen with all cabinets and accessories in place.

Now for the big side walls made out of 3/4 inch plywood, holes cut to lighten the structure (I saw it on youtube)

Then we fill the holes back up with styrofoam insullation

Sweet stuff, glue applied to start adding lath to the inside walls of the bedroom (and you know, why not have a little fun in the mean time) this is where the husband just shakes his head...

IMG_1965

Not so sweet sticky stuff covering everything including skin and clothes and it doesn't come off, good for the camper, not good for me

Yep, thats me, a lady, using power tools (no fingers lost on this build)

Pile-o-scrap-wood, so many uses, so little time

Just push the tip down and pull the trigger, nail gun, I got this! But then why does it go in one time and not another...try again, nope, try again, nope, #@*$! try again and again and again, grrrrr. Walk inside to my husband WHY WONT THE NAILS GO IN? He says, oh you just have to adjust the pressure, twist, there you go........grrrr, now it works

The lath on the side walls in place, looking good!

Now for the rest of the walls...

IMG_1977

Time to place some of the vintage treasures

Me with the nail gun, big fun, who says girls can't do this?

Adding some trim and white paint

Laying the carpet tiles

Floor's all done, I like

A beds got to have a headboard right?

Ta Da

White washed the inside walls and added some artwork

Blue skies above, and a ceiling fan

Adding some wiring, with the help of an electrician friend of mine, just can't quite wrap my head around the whole amps - lumens - volts things

More wires

The main electric converter thingy, yeah don't understand that either

Where the plug goes in

Time to tackle the hatch, a soul sucking, frustrating, miserable part of this build

Has to fit perfect

After building, rebuilding and then rebuilding again I finally get it right, still not perfect but it works

Adding the shiny diamond plate and trim

IMG_2248

Insta-door, very nice, just cut a hole and plug it in

On to the fun stuff, painting and decorating!

Everyone needs a little trunk for their junk!

Painting inside the hatch

Did I ever tell you that i'm kind of an overachiever? I made a camping gnome to go with the camper

Oh yeah, and whats a new camper without a home made quilt?

And some coordinating pillows...

And curtains...(just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do we do we sew sew sew...

And a mascot...

Finished outside

Finished galley kitchen

IMG_1158

Finished inside

And other side inside

Dogs testing out the cozy bed

Finished other side outside with table

And we're off on our maiden voyage, Red River Gorge

Amazing breakfast in my kitchen...Ok, what you don't see: trouble with the back hinge pulling and the latch on the galley.....on the expressway home, hatch flies open, random cast iron paper towel holder bouncing down road behind me, guy next to me hysterically flagging me down to tell me about hatch, Flo the mascot flew home somewhere, nothing I can do except latch it again and pray watching it every other second out the rear view mirror.......fail

Ok, outing number two, this is a big one, New Hampshire, check out my baby next to a big camper

Dream camping spot right on the ocean, beautiful!

Until the 5 day storm rolls in.... cold, wet, lots of lightening on water, camper rocking in the wind, no biggy right? I ain't afraid of no storm....until...in the middle of the night my canopy starts to blow away and I have to take it down, metal poles, lightening, you know....freezing cold, soaking wet...

...oh yay, now the wind grabs the hatch and starts to rip it off at the hinge, quick, grab the thing, thank God you brought the screw gun, duck tape...WHERE'S THE DUCK TAPE? Did I mention leaking is not a good thing in a small teardrop camper? More duck tape...

Alright, I now have the entire galley taped shut so no water can get in and climb into bed, warming my frozen self by the fake fire, cozy....sleep. Wake up to realize I can't open up the galley now so....no food for me, oh yeah and it's still raining and freezing cold...all week long. Soggy, sad Lynn

Trip's over and it's time to reevaluate again and make some improvements. I solidified the counter top and re-grouted, added a new backsplash...

More caulking

Added linoleum flooring to the kitchen...

Made a drawer for the cooler to make it easier to get in and out...

New hatch covering...

Fake tv gone, added new door for storage and bar to hang iPad over to watch movies...

New kitchen wallpaper...

New appliance...

New table covering and...

Ta Da...better than new, ready to try'er again

On to Indiana for a Tearjerker's Gathering, everything worked great, no issues except the miserable heat this time, happy camper!

IMG_4651

I told you hot...use a fan outside hot

Do nothing but lay still by the fan hot.

Meet my new friend Mr. Stick Bug, he stayed in the same place on the hatch for the whole weekend

Our last adventure in Flo, we found the giant Longenberger basket on our way to dig flint in Zanesville. A couple months later I sold Flo to a happy family, I decided I wanted a little more room so that if ever caught in a week long freezing rain storm I can still eat and sit somewhere besides laying in my comfy bed....so on to camper build #2!
